Back to School

The school year in Houston and the surrounding area is in full swing with all the business and activities that come with the academic year. Santa Maria’s young residents attend Houston Independent School District, and their year has been off to a great start thanks to amazing community partners. 

The Top Ladies of Distinction’s back to school drive ensured each child had every school supply on their list.  In addition, IKON Kids  volunteers came to Santa Maria providing an amazing back to school bash complete with sno-cones and a bounce house.  This amazing team created a fun filled evening to close out the summer allowing the mothers and children at Santa Maria to make lasting memories together. 

Three Cheers for Volunteers

Volunteers are essential to the life-changing work Santa Maria engages in each day.  Both group and individual volunteers lend their hands and hearts to make Santa Maria a better place. Recently Santa Maria welcomed their first group of the fall volunteer season.  A crew from Caterpillar came out in force to improve the landscaping and beautiful plants that grace the Santa Maria courtyard. 

Faith Leaders Breakfast

On August 29th Santa Maria hosted their third annual Faith Leaders Breakfast with more than thirty dedicated faith leaders from throughout Houston in attendance.  Guests heard from guest speaker Jon-Al Duplantier, Director of Community Outreach at Life Change Ministries about what community outreach means to their congregation.  In addition Santa Maria Alumni Carolyn Schneider shared the part Santa Maria played in her life changing recovery journey.  Guests also learned how they can engage with Santa Maria within their faith communities.
