Update After Hurricane Beryl

On July 8th Hurricane Beryl blew into the Houston area affecting millions of people. Santa Maria’s facilities were among those affected by the severe storm.  Missing shingles, downed limbs and no electricity combined to make the coming week a great challenge.

As our staff began to navigate the best ways to serve our participants, it was clear we needed support from our community.

Quickly after reaching out to partners, donors and volunteers the call was answered and relief arrived at our door in many forms, including:

    • Generators on loan from MustangCat
    • StarLink Satellite Wifi on loan from Kodiak Gas
    • Hot lunches and dinners for both participants and staff from Lena's Asian Kitchen and The Multicultural Center
    • Gift cards from HEB for daily essentials
    • Cases of Water from our neighbors at the Women’s Home
    • A truckload of food products to refill our refrigerators/freezers from CenterPoint Energy

Looking back at this very long month we are filled with immense gratitude for those who arrived in our time of need.

Santa Maria would also like to thank the individuals who personally delivered items like water, gatorade, popsicles, and baby formula.
