Literacy Now

The Reading Express at Santa Maria

Literacy Now’s mission is to empower children and families through literacy and life skills.  They support children and families throughout Houston with the goal for students to read on grade level.  Literacy Now serves 2,500 children and parents in the Houston Independent School District, Aldine Independent School District and various community sites throughout Houston.  Santa Maria is blessed to welcome Literacy Now to the Bonita House campus each Saturday, providing The Reading Express Program. 

The Reading Express is a mobile classroom that provides high quality reading readiness programs for children 2 months to 4 years of age while also engaging their parents in their child’s literacy development.

The mothers and children participating in The Reading Express program at Santa Maria enjoy engaging with Literacy Now’s staff and volunteers.  They are also working to provide a firm foundation for reading and literacy with their children. 

Santa Maria is grateful to Literacy Now for providing this fantastic program and to Community Health Choice for supporting The Reading Express.

Many of the women and families we serve are pregnant or have infants and Santa Maria equips them with many basic needs. Please consider making a purchase with a purpose and meet the needs of our tiniest residents.

On any given day, Santa Maria houses an average of 25 babies under the age of 12 months, creating a high demand of the items listed below.

Shop for these items while purchasing groceries, or purchase them online through Amazon, Instacart or a similar service, and have them shipped directly to Santa Maria, 2605 Parker Road, Houston, Texas 77093.

RISE Picnic For Recovery

Santa Maria is honored to celebrate the thousands of women and families whose lives have been transformed by the recovery treatment and supportive services they receive.  The RISE Picnic for Recovery fundraiser is essential to fulfilling this important mission.  

Raffle Items Needed

As part of the fun and a way to raise additional funds, RISE offers a raffle with unique prizes.  All raffle items are donated and this year we need your help. If you can donate, please contact Mayda.
