Meet Sister Kelly,

Santa Maria's Full Time GED Teacher

Sister Kelly is a nun with the Dominican Sisters of Houston and has been a Santa Maria staff member for over a year.  She brings fifteen years of teaching experience including high school, collegiate and continuing adult education experience.  Kelly came to Santa Maria as a volunteer and graciously agreed to stay as a staff member.

GED services are available to all residential substance use treatment and recovery housing participants. Time to study, prepare and learn from Sister Kelly is built into the weekly schedule.  Santa Maria has two fully equipped GED classrooms with computer access, where 90% of GED work is completed.  Kelly works hard to meet the individual needs of each of her GED students, including free resources to help each student grasp the information.

Sister Kelly invests in each student and had this to say about the GED program

“I love seeing participants show themselves what they can accomplish and seeing the realization in their expressions and actions.  When a student completes her GED she realizes her potential for other things.”
