Back To School

As summer comes to a close with longer days and additional residential traffic one thing is clear - a new school year is beginning.  This is a hectic time of year with many moving pieces.

Santa Maria recently sent all our children in both our Women with Children residential treatment and housing programs back to school.

This year our children headed off to Coop Elementary School from Santa Maria’s Bonita House Campus, some attending school for the first time ever and all attending a brand-new school.  Bonita House was buzzing with excitement and nerves as our families prepared for this special day.

Getting an entire community ready to start a new school year takes a community of helpers.  We are grateful for the many hands that made sure the kids from Santa Maria had all the supplies and uniforms needed to start a new school year. This community included Team Maldonado, Armani Corvette Club, Dr. Paula Miller, the Republican Joint Judicial Campaign, and the Top Ladies of Distinction. In addition, the Top Ladies of Distinction, a service organization dedicated to transforming lives and strengthening families and communities, provided school supplies and a fun Back to School Bash. The Ladies and their husbands fondly referred to as Lords, acted as personal shoppers assisting families in navigating school supply lists and ever-changing clothing sizes to ensure each child had exactly what they needed.

New Faces on Campus

With fall approaching and school in session, Santa Maria has a few more friendly faces helping out at our campuses. Ten interns have joined our team for the fall semester hailing from The University of Houston, Waldon University, Lone Star College and Houston Community College.  In addition, this group brings the expertise they are learning in the fields of Licensed Chemical Dependency Counseling, Social Work and Mental Health.  We are pleased to both have many extra sets of hands but to also serve as a valuable part of the experiential learning needed by students to join the work force.  Santa Maria is proud to take part in forming the future counselors, social workers and administrators who will serve many individuals along the road to recovery.

Amazon Wish List

Our need for clothing, personal care items and baby items is huge. Santa Maria serves a population of women with substance use disorders, histories of mental health and trauma, incarceration, homelessness, women veterans, survivors of sex trafficking and domestic violence who may not otherwise have access to these essential items. Help us guide and empower these women and their families on their road to recovery to lead heathy, successful, productive and self-fulfilling lives.

Support our mission of empowering women and their families to lead healthy, successful, productive and self-fulfilling lives.
