Goodwill Industries of Houston Providing Microsoft Training at Santa Maria

Goodwill Industries of Houston has generously brought their grant funded Microsoft Office Fundamentals Program to Santa Maria.

Via this partnership Goodwill Industries is providing basic literacy and Microsoft training to qualifying Santa Maria participants and staff members.  The training(s) are held on Santa Maria’s campuses and conducted by instructors from CreateINterest.

On May 20, 2022, Santa Maria’s first class who participated in this training graduated.  One of the graduates, Jennifer, who has been recently discharged from Santa Maria was offered a paid position with this program. Each participant who completed the training learned valuable skills to assist them with a future job search and received a laptop computer to continue to hone their skills.  A second class of Santa Maria participants and staff are currently participating in the Microsoft Office Fundamentals Program at our Bonita House campus and a third class will be starting soon at Jacquelyn.

Graduate Kayla had this to say about the program:

“I am grateful for the opportunity to learn Microsoft fundamentals; it is so valuable!  The trainers are inspiring, fun, and engaging, they have given me the confidence to learn the specific Microsoft functions to create Word documents and PowerPoint presentations. The theory and practice in this class have enhanced my skill set and given me a better chance to get a good job.”

ExxonMobil Foundation Community Summer Jobs Program

-Meet Victoria

Each year, the ExxonMobil Foundation Community Summer Jobs Program offers eligible college undergraduates paid summer internships by providing financial grants to nonprofit organizations that allow them to hire college students.  These students receive valuable work experience and an opportunity to make a significant impact in the community.  This eight-week paid internship is made possible via a grant from the ExxonMobil Foundation.

Santa Maria is pleased to be an ExxonMobil Foundation grant recipient and welcome Victoria Chan to the Santa Maria Development Team for the summer.  Victoria is a Marketing Major at the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University, and loves exploring advertising and branding strategy. To enhance her education, she is also pursuing a Psychology Minor and a Certificate in Nonprofit and Social Innovation.

“My vision is to bounce ideas off like-minded creators and work on exciting and challenging projects that can truly make an impact. I have a passion for nonprofits and dream of using my skills to further a social cause. I am so excited to spend this summer serving at Santa Maria!"
