Faith Partners Help Santa Maria Grow

Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church

Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church (MDPC) has been a faith partner at Santa Maria for over 15 years.  Even as a large church, MDPC is known for its warmth, generosity, and dedication to ministry.  Santa Maria is so fortunate to have experienced this firsthand.  MDPC’s generosity to Santa Maria is demonstrated in several ways. 

1. Acts of service – members volunteer at Santa Maria giving their labors of love to our mission.
2. Hand Made Warmth – this winter the MDPC knitting group handmade hats, scarves, and baby blankets, including our intergenerational residents.
3. Generosity – MDPC gives annually to support the life changing work of Santa Maria.

Most recently MDPC gave a special donation, providing Santa Maria with funds for computers and desks for our GED classroom.   Education is a vital part of Santa Maria’s work in helping women achieve and maintain long term recovery.  More than 100 women dedicate nearly 400 hours annually toward completing their GED, utilizing Santa Maria’s onsite classroom and dedicated GED instructor, Linda Johnson. 

In addition, MDPC's donation provided for new clothing items for the Santa Maria store.  This non-transactional store allows Santa Maria's participants to shop for items they and their children need while in recovery, providing a dignified way to meet their basic needs.

Mommy and Me Yoga

Bi-weekly the mothers and their children (ages 3 and up) from Santa Maria’s Women With Children program participate in Mommy and Me Yoga.  Thanks to the generosity of The Phoenix, yoga instructor Stephanie works with mothers and children to connect, relax, and stretch it out with yoga.  The Phoenix mission is to build a sober active community that fuels resilience and harness the transformational power of connection so that together we rise, recover and live.  National Sober Active Community | The Phoenix
